The short version
The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your income, household size and bill amount are never transmitted to us, because there is no server to transmit them to. This is a static site.
That matters more here than on most sites. Financial hardship and medical care are sensitive, and the safest way to handle sensitive information is not to collect it.
What is stored on your device
Your last set of entries is saved in your browser's local storage so the page is not blank if you come back. It stays on your device, we cannot read it, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Your figures may also appear in the page URL so a result can be bookmarked. Be careful about sharing that URL — it contains what you entered.
What we never do
- Ask for your name, address, date of birth, insurer, account number or any medical detail.
- Sell, rent or pass information to hospitals, insurers, collection agencies, medical billing advocates or debt-relief companies.
- Email you. There is no mailing list, because there is no sign-up.
No health information is collected, and nothing you enter is health information — household size, income and a dollar amount say nothing about your care.
Advertising
This site carries third-party display advertising. Ad providers may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure and personalise advertising, acting as independent controllers of that data under their own privacy policies.
Where required, a consent notice is shown before non-essential cookies are set, and declining is a genuine option that does not restrict use of the calculator.
Analytics
Aggregate traffic measurement may be used to see which pages are read. It is never combined with anything you type into the calculator.
